Now Available: New York Health Benefit Exchange SHOP Certification Course
The New York Health Benefit Exchange will begin accepting applications for insurance on October 1, 2013. Producers who wish to sell, solicit or negotiate health insurance through the Exchange must complete a certification course for each of the Exchange's two markets - Individual Market and Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP).
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has approved the certification course for the SHOP. The course will be offered by the DFS network of approved CE provider organizations. To view the course training schedule and list of approved vendors, click here.
A certification course to sell insurance through the Individual Market in the Exchange will follow shortly. Producers must complete the SHOP certification course before taking the Individual Market certification course.
In addition to gaining certification to sell insurance through SHOP and/or the Individual Market, producers completing these courses will earn continuing education credits toward the renewal of their insurance licenses.
PLEASE NOTE: These approved courses are the only courses that will qualify a producer for certification to sell insurance through the Exchange.
